Chilliwack hockey star chosen for Team B.C. roster

Ethan Bowen is one of 20 skaters selected by B.C. Hockey to rep the province at the 2017 WHL Cup.

Chilliwack’s Ethan Bowen has been named to the Team B.C. roster that will play in the 2017 WHL Cup against Team Alberta, Team Manitoba and Team Saskatchewan.

The tournament runs Oct. 18–22 at WinSport in Calgary, AB.

Formerly known as the Western Canada U-16 Challenge Cup, the WHL Cup features the highest-rated players in the U-16 age category, most of whom were selected in the most recent Western Hockey League bantam draft.

Bowen was a second round pick of the Kelowna Rockets who has chosen the BCHL-college rout over major junior. The University of North Dakota commit has suited up twice this season for the BCHL’s Chilliwack Chiefs and is on the roster of the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League’s Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

Bowen and Team B.C. kick off the WHL Cup Oct. 18 vs Team Saskatchewan. They play Team Alberta Oct. 19 and Team Manitoba Oct. 20.

The tournament wraps up Oct. 22 with the bronze and gold medal matchups.
