Chilliwack’s Michelle Savich has been named acting Coaching Director for Field Hockey B.C., stepping in to replace Gurjit Sighu, who recently resigned.
Appointed by the FHBC Board of Directors, Savich will fill the role until 2022 when the post next comes up for election.
Savich has been a part of the field hockey community for over three decades. She first picked up a stick in middle school in Chilliwack and participated on high school and high-performance teams in British Columbia before attending Acadia University.
During four years at the Nova Scotia school, she was a founding member of the Acadia varsity team and captained the crew for two years. After a debilitating injury took her off the field as an athlete, Savich stayed involved in the game as a coach with Acadia and Nova Scotia field hockey programs.

Since 2004-05, Michelle has coached teams at a variety of levels in the Maritimes and in British Columbia. When she began her career as a teacher in the Chilliwack school district, Savich started volunteering with the Chilliwack Pink Panthers, quickly becoming head coach, and then club president in 2006-07.
Through her leadership, the Pink Panthers have gotten stronger on and off the field.The club has competed at the Cal Cup tournament, hosted international touring teams, hosted FHBC club competitions and joined the Vancouver Women’s Field Hockey Association.
Beyond her club responsibilities, Savich is head coach of the Sardis secondary team, head coach of the Mt. Slesse middle school team and co-coordinator of the Chilliwack middle school league. She is also the former Fraser Valley Field Hockey Commissioner and current Fraser Valley East representative.
