While the Chilliwack Chiefs sat out BCHL trade deadline, a Chilliwack native wasn’t so lucky.

Trent Huitema was involved in one of six transactions processed on Tuesday.

The Prince George Spruce Kings sent the 18 year old defenceman to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Humbolt Broncos with 20 year old forward Tim Vanstone and future considerations coming the other way.

It’s been a tumultuous year for the blueliner, who was with the Spruce Kings for less than two months after being acquired from the Surrey Eagles in mid-November.

He started the season with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League, playing six games before coming back to the BCHL. Huitema only appeared in eight games with the Eagles/Spruce Kings, recording zero points and six penalty minutes.

Two players with Chilliwack Chief ties were also on the move Tuesday.

Carter Cochrane’s rights were dealt from Salmon Arm to Trail. Future considerations went the other way for the 20 year old defenceman who has nine goals and 16 points in 25 BCHL games this season.

Twenty year old forward Mitch Skapski was traded from Salmon Arm along with 19 year old forward Haydn Hopkins in exchange for the 18 year old forwards Ryan Hogg and Trevor Ayre and future considerations.

The Surrey Eagles were the busiest team, pulling off four trades in 48 hours.

On Monday the Eagles sent 20 year old defenceman Tyler Cooper to the Hawksbury Hawks of the Central Canadian (Ontario) Hockey League in exchange in exchange for futures. On Tuesday, Surrey shipped 18 year old goalie Michael Botiz to the Maritime Hockey League’s Miramachi Timberwolves and sent 20 year old blueliner Nick Minerva to the Cobourg Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The Eagles acquired 19 year old Domenic Massellis from the Coquitlam Express for futures.
