MINOR FOOTBALL REPORT
WEEK FOUR:
Chilliwack’s junior bantam Blue Giants steamrolled the Abbotsford Falcons 33-0 in minor football action last weekend.
Quarterback Aiden Saunders returned from injury to lead the Giants. Saunders topped 100 yards passing and threw a touchdown toss to Ryan Jansen. Receivers Braeden Macdonald, Andrew Fawcett and Nick Murphy that all had great days catching Saunders passes.
The QB added a touchdown run and Brayden Stuiksma and Josh Caverly also ran for majors, following the blocking of offensive linemen Evan Butler, Jamie Decker and Zach Wolter.
The blitz-happy Giants defence gave the Falcons fits all day. James LeBlanc, Jace Nessel and Vinny Branauer compiled five sacks between them. Tyler Bergin and Davis Lapierre were unstoppable forces on the line, and Davis produced two points when she dropped an Abby ball carrier for a safety.
Defensive backs Tyson Orregaard, Jared Rahnborn and Kenyan Reid shut down all Falcon pass attempts for the day and picked off Abbotsford passes twice.
— Chilliwack’s peewee Red Giants fell 20-6 to the North Langley Bears.
Lukas Both and Matteo Reid delivering a series of punishing tackles to lead the Chilliwack defence and Noah Johnson was named the game MVP.
Offensive lineman Jack Bowman and Matthew Ganske kept quarterback Christian Beck on his feet and he was able to complete a pass to Micah Young for the lone Giants major.
— Chilliwack’s peewee Blue Giants came off a bye week with a 30-0 loss to the Abbotsford White Falcons last Saturday.
In a game where the Giants offence sputtered, an offensive line anchored by Nikolas van Ruitenburg and Jaden Heibner did their jobs well. Quarterback Carter Dallas got the passing game rolling in the second half with completions to Teagan White, but despite some fantastic blocking by fullback Jace Chappell the Chilliwackians couldn’t reach the endzone.
The defence held up well, led by run stuffing linebacker Pierson Capstick. Cornerback Gavin Parks produced a handful of touchdown-saving tackles and defensive tackles Mackenzie Boyd and Kaiden Dyer caused havoc in the Falcons backfield all game long.
— Chilliwack Minor Football’s Friday Night Lights game was an atom clash between the Blue Giants and the Meadow Ridge Knights.
A back-and-forth battle between two high-powered offenses saw the locals absorb their first loss of the season, 34-30.
The Giants opened the scoring on just the second play of the game and got offensive contributions from all sides of the ball.
Linebacker Caleb Friesen provided a defensive score, returning an interception for a touchdown and special teams added another major with a huge kickoff return.
The defense was led by tough-tackling linebacker Zach Talvio while defensive tackle Michael Schur fought his way into the Meadow Ridge backfield to prevent some big gains.
On the last play of the game, with the Knights looking to punch the ball into the end zone one more time, defensive tackle Malakai Hakansson met the Meadow Ridge runner at the goal line and pushed him back.
— The atom White Giants were blanked 34-0 by the Ridge Meadows White Knights.
Chilliwack put together a long drive to start the game, led by the blocking of Cole Kermode, Benjamin McKay and IHOP Player of the Game Judah Lueck. Quarterback Alex Cayer completed a big throw to Ridley Mastin but the Giants came up short of the endzone.
Kruz Luis forced and recovered a Ridge Meadows fumble, but the Giants couldn’t capitalize.
The Chilliwack defence fought hard against the high-powered White Knights offence, with defenders Jackson Gamboa, Maguire Brown and Jacob Stoneson leading the way.
