Chilliwack’s Kate Klassen to play in national hockey championship

The forward has been named to Team B.C.'s roster for the National U-18 Hockey Championship.

BC Hockey has announced the 20 players selected to play for Team BC at the 2019 National Women’s U18 Hockey Championship, November 3 – 9, 2019 in Morden and Winkler, Manitoba.

Chilliwack’s Kate Klassen is one of 11 forwards listed.

The Team BC roster was selected after a four day camp that was held Sept. 19-22 in Vancouver.

“We look forward to continuing the recent success of Team BC with this group of talented players,” said BC Hockey Chief Executive Officer, Barry Petrachenko. “The preparations by this group of athletes, coaches and team staff have been outstanding and we are excited to have them represent BC at the National Women’s U-18 Hockey Championship.”

Klassen, a five-foot-seven winger, will be playing for the Richmond Pacific Steelers in the Junior Women’s Hockey League this season.

At the National Women’s U-18 Hockey Championship, her squad will open Nov. 5 against Quebec and also face Manitoba and Ontario in the round-robin stage.

Semi-finals are Nov. 8 with the gold and bronze medal games Nov. 9.

Klassen is no stranger to high level hockey. The teenager helped Team B.C. win bronze at the 2019 Canada Winter Games, which were held last March in Red Deer, Alberta.
