The Mount Washington Ski Patrol Association is now accepting entries for the inaugural Chute Shorts Film Festival.

“Although the past winter snow season was a bit shorter than we are used to enjoying on Vancouver Island, we know there are a lot of great videos out there showing people having fun in the snow on Vancouver Island,” said MWSPA vice-president Martin Martens.

Videos must have a primary focus on winter outdoor snow sports. The Chute Shorts Film Festival is accepting videos that are five to seven minutes in length. The videos must be edited and tell a story about having fun in the snow at Mount Washington Alpine Resort or anywhere on Vancouver Island.

“Not only can entries show skiing and snowboarding, we are also accepting entries about snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice climbing, snowmobiling, or any snow sports activity on Vancouver Island,” Martens said.

The Chute Shorts Film Festival is scheduled for movie nights in early November at venues in Victoria, Nanaimo, Campbell River and the Comox Valley. “We plan to show the best 10-12 videos submitted to the festival. Winning videos will receive prizes from our sponsors – Mount Washington Alpine Resort, Ski Tak Hut, MEC, Valhalla Pure Sports, Sports Traders and the Ski and Surf Shop,” Martens said.

Early submission deadline is May 31 with a reduced submission fee of $10. The final submission deadline is July 31 ($20 submission fee). Entry forms and more details are available at chuteshorts.ca

The Mount Washington Ski Patrol Association is a non-profit independent association registered under the Societies Act of British Columbia. “We are a fully independent ski patrol with volunteer members who work closely with the Mount Washington Alpine Resort Pro Patrol,” said Martens. “Our training and activities are funded through membership fees, donations and fundraising activities.”
