City of Nanaimo’s parks and rec set for spring programming

Registration now open, activities going ahead with COVID-19 precautions

The City of Nanaimo’s parks and rec department is encouraging activity in spite of the pandemic.

The city opened registration last week for its slate of spring programming.

Though the parks, recreation and culture department hasn’t been publishing its usual activity guides, there is an online activity guide on the city’s website and programs are indeed happening.

“The City of Nanaimo is offering programs that improve the health, wellness and livability of its citizens in our community,” noted a city press release.

Programs will follow COVID-19 health and safety protocols, with gatherings limited in size and participants 13 and over expected to wear masks.

“If anything, this pandemic has shown us how important being active is for both physical and emotional health,” said Lynn Wark, the city’s director of recreation and culture services, in the release. “We have a variety of programming options available for all ages and look forward to helping you and your family have a safe and active spring season. All of our programs follow the latest provincial health protocols to keep everyone safe and healthy while participating.”

To register for city programs, visit http://recreation.nanaimo.ca, call 250-756-5200 or visit the Bowen Park Activity Centre, Oliver Woods Community Centre or the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre. The city is encouraging residents to use the online platform as much as possible.

For those who don’t have online access, hard copies of the city’s program guide are available at the three aforementioned community centres as well as at the Beban Park social centre.
