Claggett crowned champion

Jessica Claggett of Kelowna’s Two Eagles Golf Academy shot a 1-under 72 Wednesday to win the Spallumcheen Ladies Open golf tournament.

Claggett, 20, placed 15th in the B.C. Junior last year at Belmont in Langley and tied for 62nd in the Canadian Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championships at Cherry Downs in Pickering, Ont.

Lynda Palaniuk of Kelowna Golf & Country Club carded a 73 for second place, while Melanie Grant of Kelowna was third at 77.

Roseanne Nish of Shuswap Estates was the overall low net champion with a 65.

Marsha Allen of Spall won the second flight low gross at 93 on a countback, while Doreen Byers of Gallagher’s Canyon in Kelowna claimed the third flight title at 97 and Betty Hawkins of Shuswap lake took the fourth flight with a 102.

Linda Doyle of Spall was runner-up low gross in the second flight with 93, while clubmate Faye Viergutz had 102 for the third flight prize. Joan Widdifield of Shuswap won the fourth flight with a 106.

Third low gross by flights went to Emery Bardock of Gallagher’s at 85, Lynn Wiewior of Shuswap at 99, Arlene Sahistrom of Eagle Point in Kamloops at 108 and Jenni Butler of Shuswap at 111.

Gwen Redfern of Shuswap won the fourth flight low gross at 87, followed by Gloria Regier of Spall with 101, Fern Gosselin of Eagle Point at 108 and Rikki Wintemute of Spall at 111.

Sigi Bentham of Spall won the first flight low net at 68, while Raija Comminetti of Royal York took the fourth flight at 74.

Spall golfers Wendy Colley (69), Helen Jagow (74) and Kathryn Patton (76) took runner-up low net in the first, second and fourth flights, respectively.

Carole Morin of Spall ruled the second flight with a net 76 (countback), while Celine Lockert of Spall won the third flight at 79.

Spall golfers Neva Gigliuk (76), Linda Bridgeman (76) and Diane Oakden (81) topped the first through third flights, respectively.

n Vernon’s Conner Kozak shot his third consecutive 3-over 75 Friday to end up at 7-over 295, good enough for an 11th-place tie in the CIS Golf Canada Championships in Winnipeg.
