Clash returns to Langley ballroom for eighth year

An iconic boxing match is once again being brought to the downtown Langley hotel and convention centre on Jan. 27.

Amateur boxing returns to the Coast Hotel and Convention Centre in Langley ballroom next Friday, Jam. 27, with the 45th instalment of The Clash at the The Cascades.

The first boxing show of 2017, this event will feature some local fighters, said promoter and matchmaker Dave Allison describes as “the premier boxing event in B.C.”

The Main Event will feature Buneet Bisla defending his BC light heavyweight championship in a five-round title fight.

Bisla trains out of Bisla Boxing a Surrey Club, and he will be taking on Sam Moses of Sugar Rays Boxing, a New Westinster club member.

“Moses has been waiting for some time and forced a title shot after a win over then No. 1 contender Mitch Demone in Victoria last August,” Allison said.

“Moses also had two impressive wins over former BC cruiserweight champion Ken Huber last year. Huber has since turned pro. Buneet also fought Demone a couple of months ago and won a decision.”

The Bisla-Moses fight is the main event of a “stacked card” that will also show the amazing skills of WBC Canadian Champion Francis Codilla a very slick southpaw from Contenders a Vancouver gym.

Codilla will face an undefeated puncher young, Kyle Banks, from Kelowna’s Madkatz gym.

Diaz Boxing of Vancouver will present Jeffery Brittania in a four-round fight against Elroy Fruto of Richmonds POWD.

This is a lightweight fight and the winner will be recognized as a city champion. The winner would also be looking at the winner of Codilla/Banks.

Port Kells boxers will be in the mix when Brendon Kim takes on Eli Wyse a well known MMA fighter.

Jerome Serrano of Port Kells will be looking to avenge his only loss against Donyvon Cridland of Madkatz Boxing in Kelowna.

Cody Robertson of Iberra boxing well know to Clash fans fought a main event at the Hard Rock Casino in November and lost a very close split decision to Marcus Davies of Sunshine Coast.

“This will be rematched as a middleweight four-round fight and is also an important fight,” he said.

The card has eight fights set and a couple more in the works, also set is junior standout Nic Shufletoski of the Kamloops Boxing Academy meeting rival Leif Carnegie of Madkatz.

Fighting begins at 7 p.m. in the Coast Hotel ballroom.

Parking is free. General admission is $40, with $50 for ringside, and kids 12 and younger getting in free.
