As of Tuesday afternoon, preparations for this weekend’s Peewee and Midget provincial championships in Clearwater appeared well in hand, according to Melody Romeo, president of Clearwater Minor Ball.

“I put different people in charge of different areas,” she said. “They went out and found volunteers and it looks as if we have enough. It’s amazing how the community has pulled together.”

She added, though, that there always more jobs to do.

A total of 18 teams and more than 800 people are expected to descend on Clearwater for the event, which will be held this coming weekend, July 13 – 15.

A coaches’ meeting on Thursday evening will start things off with a draw to determine the game schedule, said Romeo.

Games will be held at Capostinsky Park as well as at Clearwater Secondary School. Softball action will begin at 7:30 a.m. and continue until 9 p.m. on the three days.

There will be a skills competition at CSS from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday. Results will be tallied and awards presented during a banquet for ball players and coaches in the Sportsplex that evening.

The official opening of the three-day tournament will take place at 6 p.m. at Capostinsky Park.

Both the Midget (under 18) and the Peewee (under 14) provincial championships will be for the Rep and “C” divisions. The Clearwater Midgets will play in the C division while the local Peewees will compete in the Rep division.

Anyone wanting further information or who wants to volunteer can give Romeo a call at 250-674-8009.
