Climbers turn out for annual boulder competition

Thirty participants gear up for the outdoor climbing season

The Smithers climbing wall held its annual Spring Fever Bouldering Competition last weekend, to kick off the outdoor climbing season.

Thirty participants of all ages came out to test their mettle against the 30-foot wall.

“I think it was probably our most successful bouldering competition yet,” organizer Tamara Gillis said.

“There was lots of friendly competition, but it’s really about having fun and challenging yourself.”

Categories were divided between girls and boys under eight and over eight as well as men’s and women’s intermediate and advanced.”

The course was designed for climbers to encounter and conquer a series of boulder problems on the wall.

Each situation that a climber passed was worth a certain amount of points.

Those interested in learning to climb can come to Wednesday night adult drop in for instruction.
