Clippers get back-to-back home games

Nanaimo plays the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday, Sept. 28, and then the Powell River Kings on Saturday

The Nanaimo Clippers showed some good things at the Showcase last weekend, and now they’ve got two straight nights of home ice coming up to try to build momentum.

The Clippers play the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday, Sept. 28, then take on the Powell River Kings on Saturday, also at Frank Crane.

Nanaimo went 1-1 at the BCHL Showcase event last week in Chilliwack, defeating the Vernon Vipers 4-3 Sept. 20 and losing to the West Kelowna Warriors 4-2 on Sept. 21, then returned home Sunday and lost 5-1 to the Victoria Grizzlies at Frank Crane Arena.

In the win Thursday, Ethan Scardina scored the game-winning goal for the Clippers and MacKenzie Merriman, Aiden Hansen-Bukata and Jonathan Stein were other scorers. Landon Pavlisin made 28 saves for the win as the Shipmen were outshot 31-20.

The next day, Kyler Kovich and Tyler Williams scored the goals and Jordan Naylor made 35 saves as shots were 39-22 for the Warriors.

Back home on Sunday, it was Scardina with his team’s only goal. Pavlisin and Naylor both saw time in the crease as the Clippers were again outshot, 42-25.

GAME ON … The Clippers take on the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m., then play the Powell River Kings on Saturday, also 7 p.m. at Frank Crane. Tickets will be available at the door.
