Club Championship this Saturday at Chinook Cove Golf

Ladies Night Golf at Chinook Cove with Leslie Stirling

By Leslie Stirling

It is hard to believe that August is finished.  It flashed by in such a rush.  That means that Ladies Golf Night will soon be drawing to a close.  We just have two Tuesdays left.  The Club Championship is taking place on Saturday, Sept. 10, and is open to all members.  Sign up at the clubhouse if you are interested in taking part.

This last Tuesday of August (the 30th) we had 42 ladies turn out for an enjoyable round of golf finished off with fun and laughter over supper and prizes.

I had a little too much fun while golfing.  I was so involved in the chit chat that I hit Debbie’s ball in error costing me a two stroke penalty.

She said she had noticed me eyeing her ball throughout the round and wasn’t surprised when I finally tried to take it.  The penalty didn’t really ruin my game.  I had already accomplished that early in the round.

The flight winners all had fantastic games.  Brenda Oakland scored a round of 43 to win low gross for Flight 1 (Armour Mountain Office Supplies) with Christina LeCerf scoring 47 to win low net.  In Flight 2 Louise Lodge picked up low gross (Hub International) with a score of 44 while Kathy Theriault scored a 49 for low net.  Flight 3 winners were Marie Hakes with a 49 (low gross – MJB Lawyers) and Doreen Landry with a 52 (low net).  Low gross winner in Flight 4 was Jen Amos with a score of 56.

Short drives earned prizes for Trish Thompson (Barriere A&W) and Rose Seymour (Sam’s Pizza).  So many ladies went in the gully on Hole 7 that it just about wiped us out of gift balls from Barb and Carman Smith.

Some folks found that their putters worked really well.  Kathy Theriault only used her putter 15 times to win the Gift ‘n Gab prize for least putts.

Long putts earned prizes for Debbie Rainer (Barriere Timber Mart), Lynda Fournier (Crystlee’s Hair Design), Trish Thompson (Country Store Antiques)and Carol Hindle (The Blue Jar Coffee Bar & Bistro).

Visitor Catherine Jarvis took home the Rainer Custom Cutting certificate for a long drive and the Val Bella Studio prize for landing closest to the 150 marker on Hole 9.

The ladies with the long drives were Marla Muldoon (Estylo Hair Design and AG Foods), Kelly Van Genne (Knight’s Inn), Evelyn Lucas (Pottery by Ramona), and Trudy Forsythe (Barriere Massage).  Louise Lodge edged out Cindy Leibel for the Station House Restaurant certificate for KP in 2 on Hole 7.  KPs (Closest to the Pin) went to Marla Muldoon (Carl’s Market Garden), Vicki Hoffer (Campbell & Co), Marie Hakes (Stamer Logging & EBL Ventures), Karen Peterson (Ron Wallace Trucking), and Kelly Van Genne (Royal LePage/Westwin Realty).

By the time you folks are reading this we will only have one more Ladies Night – Sept. 13.  As has become our custom, the theme of the evening will be putting golf to bed.  Hope to see all you ladies turn out in your PJs.  The night expects to be loads of fun with lots of prizes.  Be there or be square.
