Seven local soccer teams will be playing in BC Soccer’s Coastal A Cup finals May 5-6 in Richmond.
Semifinal games were played last weekend in all age groups, with two boys teams from the Central City Breakers club qualifying for their respective finals. CCB Pegasus are in both the Under-15 and Under-18 finals, each defeating the Burnaby Selects by a 2-1 score last Sunday.
Mandip Parhar netted the winning goal for the Under-18 Pegasus team, hitting the net from 20 yards out with 25 minutes to play. Ronnie Johal had the other goal, tying the game with five minutes left in the first half.
“Center backs Amar Lidder and Patrick Sahota played extremely well and were able to shut down any chances created by the Burnaby Selects forwards,” said Pegasus head coach Robby Toor.
In the Girls Under-13 competition, four local teams reached the semifinal round before the Sur-Del Sting and Semiahmoo reached the championship game. The Sting blanked Surrey FC Pegasus 1-0 Sunday morning at Mackie Park in North Delta, while Semiahmoo edged the Surrey Guildford Selects 2-1 Sunday in Cloverdale.
Jamie Cornes netted the winning goal in overtime, after Taylor Russell’s corner kick was directed her way by Sami Kaltenegger.
“Joven Sandhu, our goalkeeper and MVP in this march, had an outstanding game,” said head coach Kevan Cornes. “She made a tremendous diving save in the second game to keep the game even. And defenders Hailey Lemon, Taylor Russell, Logan Baily and Patty Dun were massive.”
The CCB Elite advanced to the Girls Under-14 Coastal A Cup final by blanking Surrey FC Pegasus 2-0 Sunday morning in Newton.
Surrey FC Pegasus got past the Surrey Guildford Selects 3-1, advancing to the Girls Under-18 final. They will face the Richmond Red Hot Selects.
Ritu Grewal netted the first two Surrey FC goals, with Kaylee Dodds adding the third.
“We had only 12 players for the game and they all really dug their heels in and did the job,” said Pegasus coach Gary Mason. “We are really excited to reach the coastal cup as we have won it two years in a row so a three peat would be icing on the cake for the girls as this is their last year on youth soccer.”
