Highly acclaimed young cycling star Maggie Coles-Lyster of Maple Ridge team racked up eight medals this past weekend at the Superior Glass Track Classic held at the Burnaby Velodrome.
“I had so much fun,” said Coles-Lyster, who rides for Local Ride/Dr. Vie Superfoods team.
The young phenom took part in 10 individual track cycling races in three days. Of the 10 races, Coles-Lyster won four events, while snagging two second place finishes and another two third place result
With those top finishes, she secured the cumulative Omnium victory – no small feat, considering the highly competitive field of 17 youth women in the contest.
“Yes, I’m very tired,” she admitted after the busy weekend of racing.
Five of Coles-Lyster’s senior teammates also competed, including Canadian Team rider Laura Brown of Vancouver, who finished second in the A category Omnium, in which she went head-to-head with the top men.
Fellow Local Ride/Dr. Vie Superfoods and Canadian squad member Steph Roorda of Vancouver finished seventh overall in the “A” group and placed an impressive second in the Elimination race. Brown and Roorda were the sole women contesting the top category.
Next up for Coles-Lyster and her teammates are the Canadian Cyclo-cross Championships on Nov. 17 and the B.C. Grand Prix of CX on Nov. 18, both in South Surrey.
