Pacific Sport and Tourism Kelowna honour athletes and volunteers at annual ceremony

Twenty-one individuals from Kelowna’s sports community were honoured this month for their exceptional efforts, both on and off the field of play.

Pacific Sport and Tourism Kelowna acknowledged 11 volunteers and 10 athletes at the 2015 Community Sport Heroes Awards at the Rotary Arts Centre.

The honourees in the volunteer category were: Gordy Charles, Alisa Brownlee, Peter Rudd, Joey Hertz, Steve Brunsden, Peter Dennert, Bill Farley, Steve Smith, Colleen Bryant, Norman Hanson and Roy Gillespie.

The athletes: Samantha Smith, Levi Kelbert, Cailey England, Danielle Hennig, Jerome Blake, Megan Hamilton, Isaac Smit,Taryn O’Neill, Josh Dueck and Kelsey Serwa.

The host award went to the Kelowna Skating Club for its staging of regional and provincial skating competitions.

Along with the recognition of these local sport heroes, the 2015 Community Sport Hero Awards Reception took time to congratulate and send off more than 60 athletes, coaches and support staff that will represent the Okanagan and Team B.C at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.

The Okanagan will be well represented on Team B.C with 46 athletes, 11 coaches and six support staff from 14 sports heading to the Games.
