A pair of trophies were awarded Aug. 8 during the Comox Golf Club ladies day.
The Florence Filberg Memorial Trophy is awarded to the player with the lowest net score. Bob Filberg donated the trophy in 1960 in memory of his wife. The inscription on the bottom reads, ‘This trophy is in honour of a lovely lady who enjoyed golf at Comox. Please keep it carefully. August 1960.’ This is a one-day field event competition, open to all members 50 and older who have an established handicap. This year’s winner is Phyllis Taylor with a score of 68.
The Marian Yeomann Memorial Putting Trophy is a plaque awarded to the player with the fewest putts. This competition is held in conjunction with the Filberg trophy competition. There is no age stipulation for the plaque. It was donated to the club in 1994 by Marian’s husband and her daughter, Pam Wonnacott. Marian is remembered playing her last game of golf, almost two months prior to her death, on Florence Filberg Day 1993, using her little pink putter.
The winner of the trophy is Barb Buchanan with a score of 27.
