Comox Valley Glacier Kings fall 5-3 to Kerry Park Islanders

Yetis were playing their third VIJHL game in as many days

Playing their third game in three days (and second of those on the road) caught up with the Comox Valley Glacier Kings on Nov. 2.

Taking on the Kerry Park Islanders, the visiting Yetis led 2-1 after two periods but gave up four goals in the third en route to a 5-3 loss in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action at Kerry Park Arena.

The G-Kings out-shot the Islanders 51-40, but Kerry Park’s special teams dominated the third period, clicking twice on the power play and once shorthanded to grab a 4-2 lead by the midway mark of the final frame.

Liam Shaw’s second goal of the game cut the lead to 4-3 at 18:04 and the Icemen pulled goalie Zachary Straza for the extra attacker, but David Bittner’s empty net goal with 52 seconds left sealed the deal for the home team.

Dylan Sampson scored the other Comox Valley goal and team captain Derian Hamilton added two assists. Braedan Cross paced the Islanders with four points (1g, 3a) to earn first-star honours.

The Icemen get a bit of a breather before returning to action. They have a home-and-away series with the Oceanside Generals this weekend. They are home Friday, Nov. 7 for a 7 p.m. start at Comox Valley Sports Centre Arena #1 then return the visit on Saturday, Nov. 8 with game time 7:30 p.m. at Oceanside Place.
