This past weekend, youth rugby players from around B.C. met to showcase their talent in the Provincial Rugby Championship Tournament or ‘PRC’s’. The tournament takes place annually in the Lower Mainland, and features teams from the Fraser Valley, Interior, Vancouver areas and Victoria.

Teams are selected regionally. Players from the Comox Valley Kickers Rugby Club were chosen for several North Island Tsunami teams. Nico Vinnedge and Jade Froehlich played for the U16 girls squad, which was coached by local women’s

rugby coach Aimee Burley and managed by local mini rugby coach Ona Thorington. This team came together to win bronze.

Sky Smyrichinsky represented the Kickers on the u16 boys side and won gold. Kristianna Bouwers played for the North Island u18 girls side that Tyra Schaad captained.

These tournaments offer a chance for players to showcase their skill to be selected for provincial teams, represent

their clubs, and build connections with the wider rugby community.

The Kickers are proud to help youth members grow their skills. Anyone interested in learning more about youth

rugby in the Valley can visit www.comoxvalleyrugby.ca or search for the Comox Valley Kickers RFC on Facebook.
