The Vancouver Island University Mariners women’s soccer team will be in Burnaby this weekend for the PacWest provincial championships.

Bolstering the Ms’ lineup are two Comox Valley forwards: freshman Chloe Gummer of Comox (Highland Secondary) and fourth-year player Katie Rodgers of Courtenay (G.P. Vanier).

Gummer had a great first year of PacWest play, scoring six goals and earning all-star honours. Rodgers tallied in the Mariners final season match, a 4-0 win over the Quest Kermodes on Oct. 23.

VIU placed second in league play and is seeded #2 at the four-team provincials. They play #3 Langara Falcons at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 28. The other semi pits #1 Douglas Royals against #4 Capilano Blues.

On Oct. 29 the bronze medal game goes at 2:30 p.m. followed by the gold medal game at 5 p.m. Tournament information, results and live coverage of the games will be available at https://pacwestbc.prestosports.com/championships/soccer_2016/index.

The PacWest has both wildcards (women and men) to the nationals, therefore a win on Friday would clinch a berth at CCAA Nationals Nov. 7-12.
