The Comox Valley United Soccer Club has added another team to its roster. After months of planning and organizing, the club has announced that a Division 3 team will compete in the next Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) season.
“One of the reasons why another adult team was created, was to provide the opportunity for players over the age of 17 to continue playing and adjust to the men’s league, while allowing adult players to continue playing for the love of the game,” coach/manager Jerret Dickinson said.
Last season, the Valley’s talented first division team finished second in its league. Their success can be credited to high dedication and commitment.
“The Div. 3 will allow for these players to continue playing throughout the season while looking forward to potentially playing for the Div. 1,” Dickinson said. “It will also allow those who love to play who can’t commit fully to enjoy the game at a more recreational level.”
This league will also help ease the transition from the youth league to adult league. In the VISL, there will be 20 teams in the third division, split into divisions 3A and 3B.
“Being part of the VISL and the CVUSC is rewarding in itself,” Dickinson said.
“It clearly shows that the Comox Valley has a pool of ‘footie players’ who would like to continue playing. It also means that half of the games will be in Victoria, so travelling is something to consider.”
The league begins in September and runs until March. Date, time, practice and game days will be announced closer to the beginning of the season.
The league fee is $200, which is non-refundable and can be paid in cash or cheque. Make cheques payable to Jerret Dickinson and drop off at Top Notch Soccer, located at #5, 204 N Island Hwy. in Courtenay. See store hours on website.
