Comox Valley United blanks Gorge in VISL Div. 1 soccer

Local men's side faces first-place - and undefeated - Cowichan this Saturday at home

A Mack and Zack attack led Comox Valley United to a big 1-0 victory over Gorge FC in Vancouver Island Soccer League Div. 1 action Saturday in Victoria.

Zack Stinson scored the game’s only goal and Mack Zirkl posted his first shutout of the season to push United past Gorge in the standings.

Comox Valley, in their first season in Div. 1, are now in a two-way tie for sixth place along with Lakehill; both have 3-5-2 records. With the loss, Gorge drops to 2-5-3 and are now in seventh place.

United has their work cut out for them this weekend as they host Div. 1 leaders Cowichan FC, who have dominated the division this season.

The Duncan team is undefeated (10-0-0) and has out-scored opponents 34-5. At press time, the game was scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Vanier Turf Field.
