Comox Valley United’s Provincial A Cup run was a short one.
In their first-ever appearance at the tournament, United lost its opening game 5-1 to Pegasus FC of Surrey on April 23 in Surrey. Pegasus, the top-seeded team at the 16-team, single-knockout event, then proceeded to gallop through the rest of the field.
They defeated Nanaimo United 5-0 on April 30 and Pacific United 1-0 on May 7 before dispatching the Coquitlam Metro Ford Wolves 2-1 in the May 14 cup final in Victoria.
United finished second in the 10-team Vancouver Island Soccer League (12-3-3) and Pegasus was second in the 12-team Vancouver Metro Soccer League (16-2-4).
Women’s Provincials
It was also one-and-done for the two Mid-Island Women’s Soccer League teams in the Female Open B Province Cup.
CVUSC Revolution lost their first game 2-0 to Saanich Fusion (Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association) on April 24 in Saanich while the Cermaq Outlaws of Campbell River dropped their opening game 4-1 to Nanaimo United (LIWSL) on April 24 in Nanaimo.
