The Comox Valley Yacht Club (CVYC) will be holding its annual open house on Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the head of the Comox Valley Marina. Look for the tent on the old pub site near the Harbour Air office. Members will be in attendance to answer questions on what the club is all about.
CVYC is an inclusive, fun-loving group of people with boats of all types, sizes and descriptions. Members share a love of the water, with a little less focus on pomp or ceremony (a.k.a. The Blue Jean Yacht Club). Members enjoy being able to go on joint planned summer cruises, whether they have a power boat or sailboat.
Reciprocal moorage at other yacht clubs is a club benefit, as well as discounts at chandleries on the Island. During the winter months there are active social events and presentations on boating-related topics. A monthly bulletin and the website with a calendar of events, marine information and boating articles keep members up to date on what’s happening.
The club also interacts with other local and area yacht clubs to share in camaraderie, and to foster dialogue on issues common to all. The CVYC and the 19 Wing Yacht Club share in the hosting costs of reciprocal moorage to specific visiting club members.
The CVYC is a steward of Tree Island. Member volunteers do an annual spring cleanup and act as summer weekend marine park hosts at the island.
Hosts provide information to visitors and encourage good environmental practices.
