Controls ambush Timber

Turn-Key Controls blank North Enderby Timber 4-0 in North Okanagan Soccer League action Wednesday night at Marshall Field #2.

Turn-Key Controls brushed back North Enderby Timber 4-0 in North Okanagan Soccer League action Wednesday night at Marshall Field #2.

The Controls opened the scoring early when Marco Arnold’s free kick was finished off by a world-class diving header from right fullback Tyler Flood inside the box.

Turn-Key (8-4-1) kept pressing and were rewarded when Greg Niemantsverdriet was taken down inside the 18. Preston Tucker converted the penalty past a helpless NET keeper Danny Stein.

The two squads battled hard for the rest of the first half, but Nolan’s Pharamsave Co-Man of the Match Jeremy Kler, using his UBCO Heat volleyball abilities, made a couple of huge saves to keep the score 2-0 at halftime.

The second half saw the two sides continue to create scoring chances in what was a well-contested game.

Andrew Pool, Turn-Key’s other Co-Man of the Match, was a difference maker up front for Turn-Key, putting the Controls ahead 3-0 when he headed home a well-placed cross from defender Alex Nolan.

Pool was denied on another chance off a quick Turn-Key counterattack on a great save from Stein. Arnold added his second assist of the night when he found Pool on top of the 18. Pool fired to the top right corner.

The Timbermen dropped to 6-3-2.

In other NOSL play, the host Revelstoke Stallions shut down Monashee Surveying 3-0.

It was scoreless at the half with Revelstoke finding the net early in the second half and going up by a deuce shortly after.

Monashee, who had no subs, gave up another goal with three minutes remaining.

Major props went to Shawn Aarsen for volunteering to play keeper and coming up with some great saves to keep it close.

The Stallions are 6-2-2, while the Surveyors dipped to 4-4-3.
