Soccer goalkeepers get no respect. And apparently, we aren’t helping the cause.
The Citizen recently made an error in the name of one goalie, while the name of another player was inadvertently left out of a story entirely.
In the May 5 paper, Cowichan U14 Gold girls keeper Chloe Bruce had her last name spelled incorrectly (‘Two thirds at Kelowna Ice Breaker’) despite a heroic performance that helped her team win bronze at a tournament in Kelowna.
In the April 9 paper, Darian Achurch’s name was missed altogether in an article about Vancouver Island Soccer League award winners (‘LMG’s Martin wins VISL President’s Trophy’), even though the Cowichan United goalie was named Div. 2 MVP.
