The Cowichan Outlaws earned their first point of the season in the Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association Div. 2 standings thanks to a 2-2 draw with Peninsula at Evans Park last Sunday.

Alana Edwards scored Cowichan’s first goal of the match, beating Peninsula’s right back and crossing the 18-yard line before putting the ball past the Peninsula keeper.

Peninsula led 2-1 at halftime, but the Outlaws battled back. Emily Lindsay ran the ball in and hit the post, but the ball bounced out to Jade Fiege, who tapped it under the diving Peninsula keeper for the tying marker.

“We pressed and hit the crossbar in injury time, and the game ended in a tie,” coach Jules Nagy said. “The six returning from last season and the new players to the team played very well for just our second game.”

The Outlaws opened the season in Victoria on Sept. 11, losing 1-0 to Bays United in a game that Cowichan managed to keep close despite having just 10 players on hand.

The two-time defending Frank Leversedge Cup champion Cowichan Cougars are also two games into their Over 30A division schedule. They opened with a 2-1 road win over Prospect Lake on Sept. 9, then  lost 4-1 to Castaway Wanderers at home on Sept. 18.

The Outlaws will be on the road this weekend, visiting Saanich Celosen on Sunday, while the Cougars play host to Gorge at Evans Park on Sunday at 10 a.m.
