Cowichan Red Arrow improved their record in Div. 4 of the Vancouver Island Soccer League to two wins and one loss with a 2-1 victory over Sunday Pick-up League Football Club at the Sherman Road turf.
“We played fairly well for most of the game,” Cowichan coach Will Chaster said. “[SPL FC] came to play. For the most part we made them chase the game and our positional play is starting to show itself.”
After several lengthy periods of possession, Cowichan worked the ball wide on their left, and a series of passes led to a cross that was just out of reach of the SPL keeper. Brandon Tolfo was right there to tap it in for his team-leading third goal of the season.
Shermag Joseph buried Cowichan’s second goal less than 10 minutes later, using his head to redirect a chip from the right side.
SPL got on the board late.
“Credit our visitor for staying with it to the end, and after a quickly taken free kick they caught us napping,” Chaster commented. “That late goal gave them some energy but the traded chances after did not result in further goals.”
Cowichan now sits third in Div. 4’s B pool. The team visits Lakehill Hooligans next Sunday at Braefoot Park.
