Cowichan’s U13 Silver girls soccer team continued its postseason dominance of Juan de Fuca with a win in the District Cup final in Victoria last Saturday.

Cowichan put an end to a three-game winless streak against JDF with a 1-0 victory in the LISA Cup final in February. Cowichan beat the same team by the same score in the District Cup final.

The similarities don’t end there, either, as Blair Murray scored the lone goal in both cup wins as well. Murray’s winner in the District Cup came a little earlier, however, in the 50th minute of play as compared to her 80th-minute clincher in the LISA Cup.

“Through hard work and outstanding teamwork, my girls won again,” head coach Ryan Giles said. “This was a very physical and hard-fought game.”

Cowichan had defeated a very tough Lakehill bronze team in the District Cup semifinal. There is no provincial tournament in the U13 silver division, so this marks the end of the season.

“This has been a very exciting and rewarding year for these girls,” Giles said. “They deserve every reward they receive.”
