Cowichan Valley skaters medal at regionals

Wetzel-Eden and Rodney compete virtually

Two skaters who live in Duncan but train in Greater Victoria claimed medals in the Vancouver Island Regional Figure Skating Competition that was held virtually this spring.

Aidan Wetzel-Eden and Raleigh Rodney participated in the competition in April, representing the Juan de Fuca Skating Club. Wetzel-Eden won gold in the Star 7 men’s category and silver in juvenile men’s, and Rodney took silver in the women’s Star 4 division.

Solo performances were filmed under strict guidelines in March and submitted for judging, which took place in early April.

Both skaters said they are grateful to Skate Canada, Skate BC and viaSport for making it possible for them to enjoy their sport in a COVID-safe manner.
