The Okanagan College Coyotes hope to leave behind a mediocre regular season with a productive run in the Canadian College Baseball Association playoffs.
OC will be in Kamloops this weekend for the CCBC’s 2013 season-ending championship tournament, hosted by Thompson Rivers.
The Coyotes will open the playoffs on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 against the regular season champion Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs.
OC will also play round robin games against host TRU, the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute and the University of Calgary.
The top three teams will qualify for the playoffs, with the semifinal for Sunday at 10 a.m.
The CCBC championship final is set for 1 p.m. at Norbrock Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Coyotes closed out the regular season with an 11-15 record after winning once in four tries as all five CCBC teams gathered over the weekend at Elks Stadium.
On Saturday, OC dropped its opener 5-1 to the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack.
Later in the day, the Coyotes bounced back with a 7-1 victory over VIBI Mariners.
Tanner Collins picked up the win in relief, his fifth of the season. Brayden Heyland delivered three RBIs.
On Sunday, Heyland was solid for seven innings as the starter, giving up just three hits but the Coyotes fell short against the Mariners 2-1.
In the season finale, the Wolfpack downed OC 10-3.
Garrett Wiese leads the Coyotes in hitting with a .358 average.
Wiese along with Heyland share the team lead with 14 RBIs.
Collins has led the pitching staff with a 5-1 record, 47 strikeouts and a 2.10 ERA.
