Creston Wave Swim Club

After having the long weekend off, the Wave attended a meet in Colville, WA. Twenty-one Creston swimmers competed at the meet. Overall, the Wave finished seventh in team points. Along with the seventh place team finish, the Wave saw four swimmers earn individual medals.

Jasper Howatt and Eastin Severtson both competed in the Novice 6 & Under Division. Howatt and Severtson both swam well, earning three best times each. Howatt finished top 8 for every race, while Severtson won all four. Severtson also swam two events in Division 1 and finished top 16.

Keupper Howatt, Kaine Gauthier, Alex Hopkins, Ethan Pelly, and Callum Ziefflie all competed in Division 1 with Severtson. Howatt and Gauthier both swam two best times each, and swam very well with their relays. Hopkins finished top 5 in several races and earned two personal bests. Pelly and Ziefflie swam hard and finished first or second in almost all of their races. Because of their strong swims they both made it to the podium. Pelly earned the bronze, and Ziefflie earned the gold for Division 1 boys.

The Wave also had three girls competing in Division 1. Skyla Schiffke, Azra MacVicar, and Aleena Ziefflie all swam well at the meet, each finishing within the top 16 for every event. Ziefflie finished top 3 in a number of races, which put her in 4th place overall and just outside of a podium position.

Schiffke, MacVicar, and Ziefflie all competed on a relay with Division 2 Alexandra Brown. Their team finished first in the 200m Freestyle relay. In her individual events, Brown finished top 8 several times, and swam two personal bests.

The Wave had three swimmers in Division 3. Connar Schofer, Anna Morris, and Natasha Hopkins all represented the team in this division. Schofer finished top 8 in all of his races. Hopkins finished top 8 in each of her races, while Morris finished top 10 in all of hers. Morris and Hopkins also competed on a Division 4 relay with Sydney Sheck and Maryn Wiens. Their relay finished third. In their individual Division 4 events, Sheck and Wiens each swam three best times. Wiens also represented the Wave in the 400m IM, in which one swimmer from each club is chosen to race. Wiens finished 4th with her time being just under the 8 minute mark.

Kylee Pemberton, Kailey Morris, and Carter Pelly all competed in Division 6. Pemberton swam several well earned best times and finished top 8 in almost all of her races. Morris finished top 6 in all of her races. Pelly, finishing top 3 in all of her races, earned the silver medal for the category.

Coaches Kieran and Emily Simpson both competed as well. Both earned a best time, while Emily also finished with a bronze medal for Division 7 girls.

The Wave only has two regular season meets left. Next weekend they are in Castlegar, and the last week of July they will be in Kimberley. After that are the Regional championships in Nelson. The team will pick up their training to try and improve their overall team placement for the final meets of the year.
