Crew hold off Storm to remain unbeaten

BSB gets four TDs from May in win over Wild

The Crew held onto their perfect record in the Cowichan Women’s Football League, but they had to weather the Storm to do it.

Thanks to touchdowns by Wilhelmina Toews and Kat Owens, the Crew led 13-6 halfway through the game last Sunday. Storm quarterback Kristen Labao found the end zone early in the second half, getting her team to within a point, but Janelle Mould scored to widen the Crew’s lead again.

Caitlin Evans had the Storm’s first touchdown, and Shylayne Davidson kept her team’s hopes alive with a big interception in the fourth quarter. For the Crew, Kerynne Bain had six sacks, Jess Lines had a convert, and Mould added an interception.

The only other game on a quiet midseason week for the CWFL saw the Blue Steel Brew shut down the Wild 36-0.

BSB quarterback Michelle Nederlof was hitting all her targets in the first half as Jessica May scored two touchdowns and Kara Espeseth added one, while on defence the team got an interception from Shelby Wilcox and a sack from Kirbee Crisp.

May kept going with two more touchdowns in the second half, while Sam Miiller added one. Heidi Haslam chipped in with an interception and a convert, and Roby Clement came out of retirement to add a sack.

The Wild got a sack from Sue Glenn and a sack from Piper Doerksen.
