Despite his absence from road running, Brad Crowe of the Comox Valley Road Runners was the top local runner at the Cobble Hill 10 kilometre road race, finishing in 37:18. The result netted him fourth place is his competitive category at the Jan. 21 race — the second of the year in the Vancouver Island Race Series. Nearly 400 runners completed the race.

The top local woman was Carolyn Coffin, who dominated her category to run away with the win. Coffin was also tops among local women at the season-opening Harriers Pioneer 8k in Victoria.

Wayne Crowe, Brad’s father, continued his steady progress back to racing fitness with his own fourth-place finish in 41:52. His training partners Danny Keyes and Brian Stewart also ran strong races, finishing second and fourth respectively in their age groups. Keith Wakelin also placed second in his age category — an impressive result as he begins to focus training on his 25th Knee Knacker this summer.

Marion Bryan also raced well, scoring a second-place finish.

The Webster and Bridges families were out in full force. Between them, these young guns nabbed a pair of third-place finishes and a fourth-place result.

The overall race winner was Shelby Drope of Nanaimo (33:00). Alison Hooper was the fastest woman (35:38).
