The first high school football game of their conference schedule is huge for the Seaquam Seahawks. Lose it, and any hope of a first place finish is dashed.
Seaquam will host the Holy Cross Crusaders Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., and in an unusual scheduling quirk, the Seahawks’ first game in Senior AA Southern Conference play is the last on the Crusaders three-game schedule.
And should Holy Cross win, their perfect 3-0 record would nail down first place in the four-team group with the Seahawks still having two games to play.
The Crusaders crushed the Langley Saints 35-0 back on Oct. 7, then edged the Hugh Boyd Trojans 24-21 a week later. After Saturday’s game, Seaquam will face the Trojans in Richmond on Friday, Oct. 28, then complete their short three-game conference schedule with a home game Nov. 5 against Langley.
The Seahawks finished their non-conference schedule last Saturday on their home field, and topped the Windsor Dukes 43-28. Seaquam trailed 13-7 after one quarter, took a 14-13 lead by half time, and built it up to a 36-21 advantage after three quarters.
Mark Lego rushed for 288 yards and three touchdowns, with Taylor Northway scoring a pair of majors on a touchdown pass from Quarterback Adam Dobie and a kickoff return. Jarren Ralf, who led the Seahawks defence with eight tackles, scoring the sixth Seaquam touchdown. Outstanding two-way performances came from Cam Laidlaw, Mark Anglin, Tyler Massicotte, Martin Minkov, Jay Singh and Matthew Mahy.
