Happy New Year from the members and staff at the Winfield Curling Club.
Our ladies bonspiel takes place Jan. 17-19 with a Disney theme. The doors are open all weekend so come on down and watch these ladies perform. It’s always entertaining.
Playdowns are happening around the province as teams vie for a spot in the provincials. The 2014 B.C. Men’s Curling Championship takes place at the Vancouver Curling Club on Feb. 5-9. Last years’ winner, Team Bilesky (Curlbc’s athlete of the year) will be there as well as John Morris, Kelowna favourite Kevin MacKenzie (Kelly Scott’s brother) and hopefully our local ice maker Darren Heath. I’m sure it will be televised so we can all watch these greats perform. Tickets are $5 per game or buy packages for all five days.
The winner of this event will go on to represent B.C. in the Tim Horton’s Brier, taking place in Kamloops on March 1-9. To purchase tickets online, go to curling.ca/tickets, as every draw ticket includes the opportunity to meet the athletes along with free admission to the famous Brier Patch and Purple Heart Lounge.
As they say: Ya gotta be there.
Back at the Winfield Curling Club, we have BRR BALLS coming up, followed by the Firemen vs. the Lions.
BRR BUNNS takes place on Feb. 22, then the inaugural Army and Navy club bonspiel has the weekend of March 1 and 2.
Our final wind-up to the season will be our famous Men’s Bonspiel on March 14-16, put on by the bonspiel committee and promises to be a great time for all—curlers as well as volunteers. Come out and cheer on your favourites while supporting your local curling clubs.
