Curling gold for Surrey

Cloverdale brothers help bring home curling gold from BC Winter Games.

Surrey has struck curling gold at the BC Winter Games in Vernon.

The Surrey rink skipped by Tyler Tardi of Cloverdale scored a 7-3 victory over Paul Henderson of Mill Bay at the games over the weekend.

Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary students Tyler and his older brother Jordan, third, are on the Zone 3 team, along with Nicholas Umbach, fifth, Zachary Umbach, lead, and Nicholas Meister, second. The team is coached by Paul Tardi.

The Corryn Brown team from Kamloops won gold 9-2 against Marika Van Osch’s rink from Nanaimo to claim the gold in the girl’s curling event.

More than 1,100 athletes participated in 15 sports at the Greater Vernon 2012 BC Winter Games Feb. 23 to 26.
