Lorne Folk stepped in as skip for Bill Pratt and led his foursome to a first-place finish with a 7-6 win in the 100 Mile Curling Club’s mixed playoffs on March 26.

The team skipped by Richard Minato, which finished first in the regular season, finished second.

Club spokesperson Wayne Venos says the final game went back and forth; its outcome determined when Minato missed a freeze to the button to send it to an extra end.

Trudy Folk (third), Rich O’Brien (second) and Sher O’Brien (lead) were part of the Folk/Pratt team.

Minato’s rink consisted of Shannon Knapp (third), Kelly Powell (second) and Cheryl Powell (lead).

In the mens night showdown, the regular season winner, John Atkinson, met Ed Ney in the finals.

Atkinson’s team won 7-2 in seven ends.

“This game was close at the start, but Atkinson started burying rocks around the button and then guarding them,” Venos explains. “This strategy frustrated Ney’s bunch as they were unable to solve it.”

Members of Atkinson’s crew are Bob Berke (third), K. Powell (second) and Venos (lead). The runner-up team, skipped by Ney, consisted of Lorne Folk (third), Cameron Bird (second) and Chance Bourassa (lead).

“Bourassa curled half of February and all of March and considering he is 13 years-old, and curls in our junior program, has curled remarkably well,” Venos adds.
