It was another great weekend at the Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club.

Club singles competition was held with Vern Greenhill facing some tough competition from Archie Harris, Henri Saucier, Dean Penny and Peter Harding. The Ladies side had Pat Cutt fending off Melie Ursulom, Cath Wiseman, Pat Norrad, and Carolle Allan.

The Novice event had only two ladies but they played a three-game event with Martine Castellani emerging as the winner over Chris Wiseman. Novice Men had a better turnout with John Kendall taking the trophy and Gary Carson the runner-up.

The Interclub League, which plays every second Monday, is down to one more event in Qualicum on Aug. 22.  This is tough competition and we thank all of those who have come out and done the travelling and driving to keep our club involved in this fun experience. It has to be fun because the Ladies are second to last and the Men are actually in last place.  We have to give all the news even when it is not so good.

Next big thing is the Applebee’s Bar and Grill Mixed Fours with 24 teams entered. There may be some very far out western garb present,  and some fun to be had for all.

Our fundraising committee, in seeking to raise funds for our clubhouse enlargement, has a handmade quilt, (made and donated by VP Pat Norrad) to be raffled.

The half bowls board is still waiting for generous donations, and the committee needs some enthusiastic members to assist, as Jackie West  has had to cut back so severely on her activities that she is not able to bowl.  Let’s all give a helping hand where we can.
