W.J. Mouat Secondary’s Danielle Thune is officially joining the Trinity Western University Spartans women’s soccer team this fall.

Thune is expected to bring versatility to the Spartans, as she has experience as both a striker and fullback.

Thune comes to TWU after playing with Surrey United’s U18 side for the past two seasons. Prior to that, she played with Fraser Valley.

“I am pleased that a player with the athleticism and competitiveness that Dani possesses has chosen to be a part of our program,” said head coach Graham Roxburgh. “I am impressed with her commitment to her work rate, and to give everything when she plays. Dani has the attributes to play in a few different roles, as she can defend, she is tough in the tackle, and has an ability to get up and down the field.

“She is quick and strong, and could pose a threat to teams offensively. I like the fact that she will add to our competitive tone. She could have a very bright future, and will add to our program in many positive ways.”

Beyond soccer, the multi-talented athlete has also earned recognition in cross-country, track and field, volleyball and basketball.

“Apart from the successful soccer program and the school of human kinetics, what interested me about TWU was the culture,” Thune said.

“From the instant I was first invited to train with the team, I was surrounded by a determined and supportive group of players and coaching staff.

“I knew right away that this was where I wanted to spend my university years. The people here constantly motivate and encourage you to be a better person and player.”

The Canada West soccer regular season kicks off this September.
