The Okanagan Sun held off the Langley Rams 15-14 in a B.C. Football Conference defensive thriller before 500 fans Saturday night at McLeod Stadium.
Langley’s Nick Taylor just missed on a 39-yard field goal with 2:21 remaining.
The Sun recorded 331 yards total offence, led by quarterback Bobby Davis. He completed 15 of 30 passes for 231 yards and one touchdown while hitting seven different receivers.
On the ground, Davis, a Kelowna product, was the Sun’s leading rusher with 89 yards on 10 carries, including a 39-yard scamper for a TD,
Davis’ favourite target was Calgary recruit Mike Friend, who hauled in six receptions for 70 yards, including an eight-yard score.
Dan Turek caught two passes for 45 yards, while Mitchell Thompson also caught two for 41 yards.
On defence, Jordan Nemeth sparked the Sun with five tackles and two assists while Tobi Sroka had three tackles and recovered a fumble.
The Sun registered three sacks as Alex Law, Derek Hurlock and Tynan Pearce got to quarterback Brandon Leyh.
Leyh completed 14 of 28 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns for Langley.
The New Westminster product found five different receivers, including Daniel English seven times for a game-high 134 yards and one TD. Nick Downey made just one catch, but took it 26 yards for a score.
The Rams’ defence, which includes Vernon’s Ben Olson on the line, forced four turnovers. Chris Graziano picked off two passes while Jordan Linnen had one and Kurt Pederson recovered a fumble and earned one sack, along with two solo tackles.
The Sun (3-0) host the 2-1 Westshore Rebels of Victoria Saturday night at the Apple Bowl.

Earlier in the day, the Vancouver Island Raiders held their 2011 home opener and showed a big crowd at Caledonia Park why they are the five-time defending BCFC champs after a 60-7 win over the Kamloops Broncos.
The Broncos managed just 80 yards of offence in the first half and finished with 280.
Quarterback Drew Jacobson was 12 of 29 for 208 yards through the air and had a touchdown. His top receiver was Vernon’s Brennan Plante who caught four passes for 102 yards and had the only TD. Adam Nesbitt of Vernon also had four catches for 41 yards.
