DBL Timbermen move to playoff mode

The Nanaimo DBL Timbermen senior B lacrosse club begins playoffs Wednesday (July 25) as it takes on the Port Moody Thunder.

The best part of lacrosse season has arrived.

The Nanaimo DBL Timbermen senior B squad begins playoffs on Wednesday (July 25) as it takes on the Port Moody Thunder in a best-of-three series.

“It’s definitely a good test, it could go either way,” said Shawn Swanson, general manager of the T-men.

The Thunder (11-7-0-1) won the season series against the Timbermen (13-7) two games to one, but both Port Moody’s wins came way back in early May. In recent weeks Nanaimo has won most of its games and PoMo has played sub-.500 lacrosse.

“We’ve got a little bit more experience than they have, which I hope will help,” said Swanson. “But they’re young, they’ve got stamina and they’ve got a couple of the best scorers in the league.”

The DBL men have home-floor advantage, but will play at Frank Crane Arena as ice is going into the Nanaimo Ice Centre. The schedule sets up well for the T-men, as the series doesn’t include any midweek road games.

“It allows us to have our full lineup for all three games,” said the GM. “There’s really no excuses. I think we’re the better team and hopefully we’ll be able to get through this first round, but they’re definitely not a team we can take easy.”

GAME ON … Game 1 is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena. Game 2 goes Saturday in Coquitlam and Game 3, if necessary, is Sunday at 6 p.m. at Frank Crane. Admission to home games is $7 at the door.
