Kelowna’s Will Dean and the Canadian men’s quad sculls crew will need a top-two finish in Monday’s repechage if they hope to keep their medals hopes in rowing alive at the Olympic Games in Rio.
The Canadian team battled with choppy conditions and finished fifth in Saturday’s heat. Crew member Rob Gibson lost his grip on his oar late in the race and the Canadians were unable to recover.
Julien Bahain and Pascal Lussier round out the Canadian crew.
The top two teams in Monday’s repechage will advance to this week’s final.
Dean and the Canadian won gold last summer at the Pan American Games in Toronto in the quad sculls and men’s eights.
