Desert Park hosts its lone horse racing event

More than 30 horses will be in six races at Desert Park for its lone race of the season

Desert Park in Osoyoos is hosting its lone horse racing event of the season Saturday at noon. Paddy Head, vice-president of the Desert Park Exhibition Society, said the membership is excited.

“We’ve got more horses than usual,” said Head.

The event will feature six races, the final one will have eight horses. In total there will be 34 horses racing.

“As far as the betters go, they are certainly going to have a lot more options,” she said. “The races have been really popular. They have done well and I have a feeling  because we are only going to have one day this year I expect the grandstand to be packed.”

Desert Park Society is only able to host one race this year because they had to wait longer than usual for funding from Hastings Park. Head said they only knew four weeks ago that they would host a race.
