Devils upset Ice Hawks

Myland makes 39 saves in win over first-place Delta

Having lost twice on home ice the previous weekend, it was just a matter of time before the North Delta Devils would win again in the Sungod Arena.

But few expected it to happen last Saturday night against the Delta Ice Hawks, a team which had won 10 of their past 11 games, and had lost just twice in 20 contests this season.

But the Devils took down the leaders of the Tom Shaw Conference, winning 3-2 Saturday night in a Pacific Junior Hockey League game.

Joshua Trisevic scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes to play, breaking a 2-2 tie with his sixth goal of the season.

North Delta led 2-0 just 14 minutes into the game. Benjamin Vikich opened the scoring six minutes into the game, then Mack Wallace added another goal for the Devils.

The Ice Hawks got one back before the first period was over, and tied the game late in the second. Delta enjoyed a 41-35 shots on goal advantage, but managed to put just two pucks past Devils goalie Steve Myland, who was named the game’s first star.

North Delta is now in third place in the Tom Shaw Conference at 10-10-1-0 (won-loss-tied-overtime loss), one point up on the Grandview Steelers and five ahead of the North Vancouver Wolf Pack. Four teams will qualify for the playoffs.

The Devils are in Richmond to play the second-place Sockeyes Thursday, then will host the Steelers in a home game next Saturday night at the Sungod Arena. Face-off is at 6:45 p.m.
