Over the weekend, the Salmon Arm Diamondbacks female peewee hockey team played in their second tournament of the season and captured the silver medal, in Merritt.
The girls bested the result in their last tournament, which they hosted over the Halloween weekend.
The Halloween-themed tournament was held at the Shaw Centre and two teams from Kelowna and one from South Delta took part in the weekend action.
The Diamondbacks started out the weekend with their first win of the season, beating out the Kelowna Vipers 4-3.
Chelsea West earned the game MVP with outstanding goaltending that helped secure the victory. In their second game, the Diamondbacks were out-matched by the much bigger Kelowna Inferno.
The Inferno team, made up mostly of second-year peewee girls, overpowered the hard-working Diamondbacks in a 7-1 match.
Game MVP went to Diamondbacks’ Kaisy Huber, with the only goal scored by this team of mixed atom and peewee girls.
Game three for the Diamondbacks against South Delta was evenly matched, leading to a 4-4 tie.
This hard-fought game was action- packed and filled with outstanding plays and goaltending. Game MVP went to Diamondbacks’ Ali Logan.
After the round robin play, the Diamondbacks landed in second place.
They once again played the Kelowna Vipers in a semifinal match. This time, the Vipers got the better of them, taking the game 2-0.
