District seeking input on youth rec programming

District looks to community groups and individuals to assist with the delivery of recreation programming.

The District of Sicamous is looking for community groups and individuals who want to assist with the delivery of recreation program activities for children and youth.

A public meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9 at the civic centre. The district is asking parents of kids in kindergarten to Grade 12 to attend, with the intent of  finding groups and individuals who would work with a district liaison to deliver recreational opportunities.

“We’re asking for parent input on programs that the District of Sicamous can support that encourage and challenge our youth to be engaged and active…,” states a district news release. “Council feels if we can narrow our recreation activities wish list to quality rather than quantity, we can be more efficient and effective in delivering recreational opportunities that better meet he needs of our youth.”

Programs could grow depending on enrolment, interest and budget.

Council terminated the district’s program and events manager position in January.
