History was made last Saturday as the Cowichan Rugby Football Club fielded a Div. 2 women’s side for the first time.
Cowichan lost 36-12 at home against a young Comox team, but the result was less important than the fact that the club has two women’s sides, something it has never been able to boast before.
“It is very exciting because it was filled with a bunch of ladies who have taken time off and have decided to return,” Cowichan premier women’s player Sherry Spence said.
The match was close until the last 15 minutes when Comox pulled away. Lenneke Vinoly and Angela Davies scored the Cowichan tries, and Davies also slotted a convert. Vinoly and Nenagh McCulloch were named Cowichan’s players of the game.
The Div. 2 women’s team will head to Westshore this Saturday, while the premier women’s team will hit the road as well to face Castaway Wanderers.
