Team captain Naydene Smith led the Cowichan Valley Dragon Divas to two wins and one second-place finish at the annual Race the River dragon boat competition in Campbell River earlier this summer.

Made up of women living with breast cancer and their supporters, the Dragon Divas practice on Cowichan Bay every Monday and Thursday from April to October.

“On these evenings, the dragon boat becomes a human-powered boat with 20 women moving the 3,400-pound boat 350 metres in two minutes,” team president Norma Cosby said.

Earlier in the season, the Dragon Divas competed at the Gorge Sprints, and in September, they will compete at Sproat Lake.
