Prince Rupert swimming star Zach Dolan had another big weekend at the Prince George Dental Moose Meet on the last weekend of April, and several other Rupert swimmers had strong individual efforts as well.
The handful of Prince Rupert Amateur Swim Club (PRASC) swimmers joined up with athletes from Kitimat, Smithers and Terrace under the banner of Points North. The team finished with 1215.5 points, second to Prince George, which had 1758, giving the northwest their best haul in awhile.
Dolan had been chasing a Canadian Junior National qualifying time at this meet, and he achieved it with his first 15-year-old time, a 25.65 run in the 50 freestyle. He also won the silver aggregate medal in the 14-15 boys age group, set a new AAA time in the 200 freestyle and won $75 by winning the Sprint Eliminator. Among his races, Dolan won the 200 free, 100 back, 100 free and 50 free, came in second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 IM and 200 back.
Warren Barton set a new A time in the 200 freestyle, Carter Brown swam to personal best times in all of his individual events, Natalie DeMille finished second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 and 400 freestyles, while Isaac Dolan, 13, won the 12-13 50 backstroke, came in second in the 400 free and third in the 200 free.
Malcolm Dolan qualified for his first-ever AA time with a showing of 2:49.55 in the 200 freestyle. He also finished third in the 50 breaststroke. Jakob Hall had a strong showing. He won the 50 breaststroke, finished second in the 200 free, and came in third in the 200 breast, 100 free, 50 free, 100 breast and 400 free.
Other performances included Lauryn Fontaine, who swam in her first swim meet and had personal best times in all eight individual events. Amy Leighton finished second in the 50 fly and third in the 200 fly, Jarred McMeekin finished second in the 50 breast and 50 free, and came third in the 100 free. Finally, Cindy Wu, 12, swam to her first A time in the 100 breaststroke and finished with best times in all of her individual events.
The next swim meet is in Kitimat from May 12-14.
